MY BIGGEST WRITING GOAL
To create work that is meaningful in the moment and memorable for a few moments more...

My mind is always partly in the clouds, partly crafting the next story swirling around in there, and partly planning what I'm going to have for dinner...
I'm as likely to be writing a children's story as I am political satire, poetry or a dystopian fiction. I've been published in newspapers, radio, television, online, in magazines and now (and most excitedly) in books. I studied journalism and children's literature at Deakin and graduated with distinctions, which made all of the nights I studied while juggling the gig of solo parent and business owner completely worth it.
In 2022 I was shortlised as a Rising Star of Australian Publishing at the Australian Book Industry Awards and was thrilled to be a panelist at the Bookup Conference in Sydney. I love connecting with likeminded book peeps as both an editor and author, if you see me at events say 'Hi'! You can catch me for assessments at the CYA Conference and KidLitVic. I'm also delighted to be involved with competitions such as PitchIt! coordinated by Just Write for Kids Australia. I'm a huge fan of the Reading with a Chance of Tacos Podcast hosted by Ken Williams. If you love all things kid lit, follow along! Here's a link to an ep when I dropped by, I hope it gives a few insights into both publishing and editing kids books.

I love meeting aspiring and established creators in my role as Consulting Editor at Larrikin House, you can find Larrikin titles here.
Other than that? Our home is at the mercy of a spoilt labradoodle named Luigi. I adore cooking and would love an enormous vegetable garden in the future. I take regular 'screen holidays' where I disappear from socials and leave my phone and laptop out of reach. Oh, and I completely doubt my own commitment to regular blogging, but I'm going to start one all the same. We can discover together if I'm actually going to stick to that!
Have a squiz around my site and if I can help you in your own writing pursuits in any way, drop me a line. I'm available for editing, mentoring, speaking engagements and teaching.
If you want to get to know Luigi, he now monopolises my insta feed.
Some of the BEST WRITING TIPS I've ever received:
“Write with a fresh brain, save menial tasks like housework for when you're on auto-pilot.” Jen Storer
^ A game-changer for me!
“Don't throw anything away! Cut out, edit, chop, but save those pieces, you never know when you might use them.” Will Kostakis
^ I've definitely put this to use; thanks Will!
“Do what you can do as competently as possible in a reasonable time frame, and then you let it go.” Elizabeth Gilbert in her book on 'creative living beyond fear' - Big Magic.
^ I'm still working on this one.
